PEM! – Paesaggi Elettronicamente Modificati

« Now I will do nothing but listen […]
I hear all sounds running together, combined, fused or following,
Sounds of the city and sounds out of the city, sounds of the day and night. […] »

PEM! – Paesaggi Elettronicamente Modificati is a collection of five soundscape compositions, realized between 2023 and 2024, in which natural elements, manipulated to varying degrees, blend and interact with electronic elements in a constant exchange of real and artificial sounds, creating an imaginative soundscape in constant flux and evolution.
Each track is characterised by a particular natural timbre and represents a soundscape in its own right, yet at the same time can be linked to the others, thus giving rise to a single, broader soundscape to be explored as one continues listening.
The compositions are inspired by certain concepts expressed in the essay The Soundscape – Our Sonic Environment and the Tuning of the World by R. Murray Schafer, from which the quotations appearing in the information for each track are taken, together with the coordinates of the locations where the field recordings contained therein were made.
PEM! is therefore a resounding path that straddles the line between reality and imagination, to be traversed and explored, but also, in the tradition of soundscape compositions, a reflection on the relationship between man, sound and the environment, an attempt at reconciliation and fusion between nature and human intervention.
